Washington, D.C. -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement on the nomination of Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher as Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security:
?President Obama and Secretary Clinton will benefit greatly from the talent, experience, and immense knowledge that Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher will bring to the role of Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security.
?Congresswoman Tauscher has been in the forefront of national security policy and issues related to nonproliferation and missile defense as a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee and the Chairwoman of its Subcommittee on Strategic Forces. As a founding member and chair of the New Democratic Coalition, Congresswoman Tauscher fought for better training and equipment for our troops, health care for our veterans, and the implementation of the 9/11 Commission recommendations to protect our people.
?While all of us in the House will greatly miss Congresswoman Tauscher?s leadership, I congratulate her on the great honor of being nominated to this critical position and look forward to her speedy confirmation by the Senate.?
