Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released this statement following a new clean water rule announced by the Environmental Protection Agency and Army Corps of Engineers clarifying waters protected by the Clean Water Act:

"The final Clean Water Rule announced by the EPA and Army Corps of Engineers today represents vital protections against the pollution of the water that our children drink, that grows the food we eat, and that sustains our environment.

"Working with stakeholders, the EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers have created a strong, clear and sensible rule. The final rule provides greater clarity over the waters covered by the Clean Water Act, and ensures that Americans across the country can trust in clean, healthy water for their communities.

"American families deserve to know that our water is safe enough to drink, clean enough to use, and free of harmful, crop-destroying chemicals. While Republicans and their special interest friends continue their efforts to dismantle the Clean Water Act, we will ensure that clean, healthy waters are the birthright of all our children."
