Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the Biden Administration announced that 2.8 million Americans signed up for health coverage under an Affordable Care Act special enrollment period established by the Biden Administration, raising enrollment to a record high of 12.2 million people:

"Today's record breaking enrollment numbers are further proof of the life-saving role the Affordable Care Act serves as a pillar of American health and economic security, standing alongside Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

"Thanks to Democrats' leadership in the American Rescue Plan, health coverage through the Affordable Care Act is more affordable than ever. With families facing a deadly pandemic and many losing health coverage at work, Democrats dramatically lowered the cost of premiums for those who purchase coverage on their own. These lower health costs have provided a lifeline to millions of families, and they must be sustained in the Build Back Better Act as we lower health costs and prescription drug prices, cover seniors' dental, vision and hearing, and extend health coverage to the millions left behind by states' refusal to expand Medicaid.

"When we Build Back Better, we will create jobs, cut taxes and lower health costs for families across America."
