Pelosi Statement on NAFTA Agreement

Washington, D.C. – Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi released this statement on President Trump's trade agreement with Mexico and Canada:

"Every proposed trade agreement must be judged by whether it improves the wages, working conditions and well-being of America's workers and farmers.

"This agreement is still a work in progress. We are waiting to see enforcement provisions relating to workers and the environment. Mexico must also pass and implement its promised labor law changes to raise the wages and working conditions of Mexican workers competing with American workers.

"Fixing NAFTA means increasing the paychecks of American workers, delivering real, enforceable labor standards, ensuring fairness for American agriculture, and recognizing the connection between economic growth and environmental protections. Democrats look forward seeing how the agreement will be improved as our Members make their judgements."
