Rome – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Italy, Mario Draghi:

"It was an honor to meet today with Italy's Prime Minister Mario Draghi, a strong international leader in the fight against COVID, in confronting the climate crisis and in investing in inclusive growth.

"As one of our closest NATO allies, Italy has been an invaluable security partner for the United States. I was glad to express to Prime Minister Draghi the gratitude of the Congress for the hospitality and partnership Italy extends to our military.

"I shared our concern about China's theft of key technology and intellectual property, as well as the danger that Chinese telecom companies represent to security and privacy.

"I commended Prime Minister Draghi for his economic leadership to promote inclusive economic growth. Crushing the virus and investing in the green economy is a key way to promote that growth, recognizing that we must build a sustainable future for our children that does not leave anyone behind."
