Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on today's reports from Medicare Trustees and Health and Human Services showing continued reduced cost growth for seniors and longer Medicare solvency:

"The Affordable Care Act continues to build a healthier and stronger future for seniors and for all Americans. Today's reports are the latest evidence that this historic law is driving down cost growth, and improving the longevity of the Medicare Trust Fund.

"Since the passage of the Affordable Care Act, the life of the Medicare Trust Fund has been increased by more than a decade. Under these new projections, seniors who saw their Medicare Part B premiums explode by 112 percent in the 2000 to 2008 time period can expect their premiums to increase only one-tenth as much in the next eight years thanks to a four-percent decrease in Medicare per beneficiary cost growth between 2009 and 2012.

"It is time for Republicans to give up obsession with repealing the Affordable Care Act, and come together with Democrats to build on this progress and strengthen Medicare for generations to come."
