Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the tragic events in Libya:

"In the wake of the tragic events in Libya, it is our responsibility to seek the facts, act on the best information available, and deliver justice for the brave Americans who lost their lives.

"Our government must take action on the most current and up-to-date intelligence in any situation or emergency. That is what Ambassador Susan Rice did on September 16th when she shared the government's preliminary assessment, which she underscored was based on the best available information at the time. Ambassador Rice further added that the results of the investigation were needed before any definitive conclusions could be drawn. Her statements were consistent with the information provided to Democratic and Republican Members of Congress and Administration officials the day before her press appearances.

"As the Office of the Director of National Intelligence stated on Friday, the intelligence community's initial assessment has now been revised to reflect the latest details collected, suggesting that the assault on our consulate in Benghazi was, indeed, a deliberate, organized terrorist attack.

"As the investigation proceeds and new intelligence and evidence are collected, we will gain an even clearer picture of the events that led to the tragic loss of Ambassador Christopher Stevens, Sean Smith, Tyrone Woods, and Glen Doherty. We owe it to them, to those who continue to serve in our missions abroad, and to all Americans to set politics aside. We must allow the investigation and accountability review board to proceed, and to make future judgments and conclusions based on the facts. That is what is needed to protect our diplomats and that is what the American people deserve."
