Washington, D.C. - Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after House Republicans voted to pass a bill to effectively shut down the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), the agency charged with resolving disputes between workers and employers:

"On the 100th day of the Republican Congress, it seems only fitting that House Republicans would cast votes to weaken our economy, undermine our recovery, and jeopardize the economic security of the middle class. Attempting to shut down the National Labor Relations Board is bad for business, bad for workers, and bad for our economic growth.

"Republicans' latest assault on American workers is about petty partisan politics, plain and simple. Their action will not create jobs; it will not spur growth; it will not strengthen working families or businesses. This legislation simply removes the last line of defense for middle class workers in any labor dispute - and leaves our economy and our country worse off.

"House Republicans shouldn't waste time trying to gut the NLRB; they should work with Democrats to strengthen it and to support our middle class. In the next 100 days and beyond, Republicans must abandon their ideological agenda and join Democrats to create jobs, grow our economy, and preserve the values of fairness and equal opportunity for all Americans."
