Pelosi Statement on Jewish American Heritage Month

Washington, D.C. — Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in recognition of Jewish American Heritage Month:

"Jewish American Heritage Month celebrates the extraordinary contributions that generations of Jewish Americans have made to enrich our nation. Since our founding, Jewish Americans have engaged their energy, patriotism and deep belief in equality, justice and freedom to build a future of opportunity for all. Jewish Americans have woven a beautiful and diverse history and culture into the fabric of American life, in the process making America more American.

"The story of Jews in America is one of determination and courage. In America, Jewish communities found a safe haven to practice their faith and celebrate their rich culture and traditions free from fear or persecution and, in the process, helped build a future of peace and prosperity for themselves, their children and all Americans. Though the road was not always easy, Jewish Americans have continued to persevere, always striving to form a more perfect union and a stronger, more inclusive democracy for all.

"This year, as we recognize Jewish American Heritage Month, we are deeply disturbed by the rise of anti-Semitism and bigotry across the country and around the world. Let us honor our Jewish communities by pledging to combat the scourge of hate wherever it exists and to protect the rights of all faiths to live free from fear or persecution."
