Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in recognition of Jewish American Heritage Month:

“May is Jewish American Heritage Month, an opportunity to celebrate Jewish Americans’ enduring contributions to our shared American story. By answering a sacred call to repair the world, Jewish Americans have made America more American by being at the forefront of advocacy for equality of opportunity for all, confronting bigotry in all its forms, and embracing the highest ideals of our nation.

“Like many immigrants, generations of Jewish Americans arrived from distant shores, fleeing prejudice in search of peace; escaping injustice in search of freedom; evading violence in search of liberty. Jewish Americans in search of the American Dream, proved indispensable in helping to create the American Dream for their families – and Americans of all faith traditions.

“This Jewish American Heritage Month, let us honor the contributions of Jewish Americans by rededicating ourselves to protecting the right of every American, of every faith tradition to practice their beliefs without fear of bigotry or persecution.”
