Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after the Department of Labor announced that the economy added 257,000 jobs. With businesses adding 267,000 jobs, this marks the 59th consecutive month of private sector job growth.
"Today's jobs report shows our economy continuing to build on the longest uninterrupted period of private sector job creation in our history: 59 months, 11.8 million jobs. However, it is clear that we must do more to strengthen the financial security of the middle class families who are the backbone of our economy.
"The middle class are the real job creators in America. For our economy to recover fully, we must expand the purchasing power of families and ensure that working men and women enjoy the bounty of their unprecedented productivity.
"The President's budget released this week is a strong plan for our future, based on 'Middle Class Economics' and dedicated to working families. It's time for Republicans to stop pushing the same trickle down agenda that destroyed our economy, and come together with Democrats to invest in our families and our future."
