Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in recognition of International Women's Day:

"On International Women's Day, we are reminded of the extraordinary progress that women have made toward building a future of inclusion, opportunity and equality. Yet, we know that in too many places, in too many corners of the globe, the potential and promise of women and girls remain unfulfilled.

"Today, brave women and girls from every walk of life around the world are showing their power and speaking up for their fundamental rights. We must lift up these incredible leaders and help build a future where every woman enjoys the blessings of equality and freedom. We must fight to bring women out of the shadows and honor their role as leaders and pillars of our communities.

"This International Women's Day, we recognize that our work is far from complete. Let us join the millions of women here at home and around the world who are seizing this moment in history. By building on the progress of generations of undaunted women, we can press forward and demand dignity, respect and women's right to a seat at the table."
