San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi today released this statement in celebration of International Women’s Day:

“On International Women’s Day, we celebrate women around the world who enrich the fabric of their communities, cultures, and economies. Yet in too many places, women are unable to enjoy equality of opportunity, receive an education or fair compensation for their contributions. The official International Women’s Day theme, ‘Pledge for Parity,’ challenges the global community to ensure every woman enjoys a full and equal place in their society.

“As we mark and celebrate Women’s History Month, we all must stay involved and stay active, playing a central role in our society, our economy, and our politics. We must strive to ensure every woman has the resources needed to fulfill her potential. Nothing is more wholesome than the increased participation of women in the political process – here at home and across the globe.

“We must create policies that promote women’s full participation in the workforce, including: equal pay for equal work, paid leave, affordable child care, and the resources needed to bring bigger paychecks to working families. On this International Women’s Day, let us build on victories past by advancing the causes of equality today, and keep our promises for all women now and in the future.”
