San Francisco â€" Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement on a hearing hosted today by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar at UCSF's Mission Bay campus on offshore energy development. The hearing is part of the Obama Administration's efforts to seek public comment as it develops a framework for developing offshore renewable energy:

â€Å"Today's hearing is a sign that President Obama is taking a new direction in developing energy policy for our nation, allowing for an open and transparent process in which the public has a voice.

"I applaud Interior Secretary Ken Salazar for putting the brakes on the Bush Administration's single-minded focus on drilling by requiring that renewable energy development gets as much study and review as drilling options."
