Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement regarding the human trafficking omnibus bill, S. 178, Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act, that passed the House earlier today and will be sent to the President:

"The persistence of human trafficking is an outrage that challenges all of us to greater action. I am glad the House has voted to enact bipartisan legislation to combat this scourge, providing new tools for law enforcement to prosecute traffickers and strengthening our support for survivors.

"However, the expansion of a mandatory minimum provision in the legislation is problematic and regrettable. I hope there will be opportunities to address this provision and several other provisions that may impede law enforcement from achieving the goals of the legislation."
