Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement ahead of President Trump's meeting with Congressional Republicans on family separation and the House's anti-immigrant bills:

"Every day that Congressional Republicans allow the President to continue ripping children from their parents at the border is a stain on our nation. House Republicans could stop this outrageous practice in a heartbeat, if they showed the basic decency and humanity to demand that the President rescind his policy at their meeting with him today.

"The atrocity of family separation is not about immigration policy – it is about humanity, morality and who we are as a nation. Yet, Speaker Ryan and House Republicans have chosen to be complicit in this barbaric act instead of holding President Trump accountable.

"All Americans must ask, why do Republicans believe that vulnerable immigrant children do not deserve the same basic human rights protections as their own?"
