Pelosi Statement on House Republican FY2018 Budget Resolution

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after House Republicans unveiled their FY 2018 budget resolution:

"House Republicans have devised a toxic budget whose sole purpose is to hand tax breaks to billionaires on the backs of seniors and hard-working Americans. Instead of investing in good-paying jobs, the Republican budget would stack the deck even further against working families.

"Similar to the Trump Budget, House Republicans would inflict crushing damage to economic growth, research and innovation, children's education, workers' skills training, and job-creating infrastructure. Republicans would destroy the Medicare guarantee for our seniors and inflict bone-deep cuts to Medicaid that would devastate veterans, seniors with long-term care needs, and rural communities. Republicans would inflict historic damage on our investments in hard-working Americans while failing to balance the budget and hollowing out our future.

"Under the Republican budget, seniors, children and working families will struggle while billionaires get more and more tax breaks. The budget is a statement of values. Republicans' budget shows they do not value the success of hard-working Americans."
