Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the House passed an extension of the Paycheck Protection Program lending deadline from June 30 to August 8:
"As we vote for a brief extension of the Paycheck Protection Program, I continue to call on the Trump Administration to release the data of who has received its benefits. The Administration's breathtaking lack of transparency continues to raise serious questions as to why the Administration is failing to ensure this lifeline reaches the small businesses in our most impacted communities.
"As coronavirus cases surge across the country and countless businesses are forced to shutter, American workers and small businesses desperately need action to protect their lives and livelihoods. In May, the House passed The Heroes Act to do just that: extending PPP to December 31, putting us on a path to safely reopen the country with testing, tracing and treatment, honoring our frontline heroic workers, and putting more money in the pockets of workers and families."
"Leader McConnell must end his deadly obstruction and join the House to pass The Heroes Act immediately. Every day that he refuses to take action, the American economy and American workers' financial security risk greater devastation."
