Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day:
"On Holocaust Remembrance Day, we remember the millions of souls murdered because of who they were and what they believed. We commit to honor their memories by telling their stories and speaking out against anti-Semitism, racism and injustice in all its forms. And we rededicate ourselves to uphold our sacred mission to never forget, to never stand idly by and to never stay silent.
"As we observe this solemn day, we also mark the 75th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. The defiant spirits of those brave, courageous men, women and children continue to inspire millions around the world. Their heroism and humanity in the face of evil remain an enduring example of strength and perseverance to us all.
"Today, an insidious proliferation of bigotry and nationalism across the world challenges the conscience of us all. We must honor the memories of the six million Jews and millions of others murdered in this incomprehensible horror by maintaining constant vigilance against hatred and persecution. Together, we must all work to advance peace, secure freedom, ensure justice and build a better, more equal future for all people. As the last generation of living witnesses of the Holocaust passes from this world, let us ensure that the lives of all who were lost in the Shoah continue to be a source of moral action to us all."
