Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after Senate Republicans moved to proceed to debate on the House-passed Trumpcare bill, amid reports Republicans plan to move toward a "skinny" Trumpcare that includes repealing the individual mandate, the employer mandate, and the medical device tax:

"The cruelty, carelessness and contempt Republicans are showing for working families boggles the mind. Every iteration of Trumpcare has been more desperate and monstrous than the one before. Now, Senate Republicans are careening toward shattering the health care of millions of Americans with no regard or appreciation for the consequences.

"Republicans may call their latest plan ‘skinny' Trumpcare, but it would cause big league health cost increases for families across America. Instead of lowering Americans' costs, Republicans would be openly shoving the marketplaces into a death spiral. Premiums will soar, options will evaporate, and millions of families will lose health coverage.

"Republicans should abandon Trumpcare and their sabotage effort, and finally work in a constructive, bipartisan fashion to stabilize the insurance marketplaces before leaving Washington."
