Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released this statement following the first hearing of the Joint Committee on Deficit Reduction:

“At today’s meeting of the Joint Committee, Democrats made our top priority clear: creating jobs and growing the economy while addressing our long-term deficit. Democrats on the Committee have already ensured that the final report will address economic growth, employment, and competitiveness; as the Committee deliberates, we must ensure that the Congress acts.

“All Members of Congress must work together without delay to address the top priority of the American people.”
