Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released this statement on the first day of open enrollment for Affordable Care Act marketplaces for 2018, which runs from November 1 through December 15 for 42 states, with 8 states and D.C. having longer enrollment periods:
“Starting today, millions of Americans once again have the opportunity to gain affordable, quality insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplaces created by the Affordable Care Act. With the start of open enrollment, Americans across the country can take action to protect themselves and their loved ones against unexpected medical costs and secure access to free, life-saving preventative health services.
“Last year, eight in ten people in the Marketplaces qualified for financial help with their premiums when they enrolled in the Marketplaces. For most people, that meant that they could find premiums between $50 and $100 per month.
“Democrats will continue to push for action in Congress to keep lowering premiums and ensure access to quality, affordable care for all. In the meantime, we will help spread the word to uninsured and insured Americans alike to act now to secure affordable quality coverage for themselves and their families in the insurance marketplaces for 2018. We will keep fighting to ensure that no American is denied the tools to pursue a safe, happy and healthy future.”
