Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi today released the following statement after Republicans moved to begin bringing appropriations bills to the floor without having enacted a budget, the final admission that Speaker Ryan has given up attempting to pass the Ryan Road-to-Ruin Budget proposal:

“Today, the Republican Leadership owned up to the radical reality of their conference: the most devastating Ryan ‘Road to Ruin’ budget proposal in history was insufficiently severe for the radical forces that have seized control of the Republican Party.

“A Ryan budget that would have ended the Medicare guarantee, devastated good paying jobs, and demanded $6.5 trillion in cuts was not extreme enough to pass this insatiably reckless Republican majority.

“Hard-working Americans deserve a Congress that protects their safety and invests in their future. Democrats will continue to press for action to confront the challenges Americans face and a budget that reflects our values as a country – a budget that creates jobs, strengthens our security, and brings bigger paychecks to the American people while reducing the deficit in a responsible way.”
