Washington, D.C. â€" House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the fifth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks:

â€Å"Five years ago, the terrorists attacked symbols of our economic and military strength; but what they failed to understand is that our true strength rests in our will and our unwavering commitment to America.

â€Å"On September 11 we grieve as a nation; we must also recognize there are many among us with their own personal tragedy to bear and whose grief knows no end. Today we remember the parents, spouses, and children who lost those they loved most. I hope that it offers some comfort to those who lost loved ones and those who were injured in the attacks that so many people in our country and throughout the world remember their loss and their suffering and continue to pray for them.

â€Å"Five years later, we have to continue to move forward with unity, urgency, and in the spirit of international cooperation, because we are not yet fully healed and not yet as safe as we should be. Therefore, we pledge again today: united as a country, we will seek to keep alive the indomitable American spirit that was displayed on September 11, and keep Americans safe from harm.”
