Washington, D.C. — Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after the Department of Labor announced that the economy added 242,000 jobs in February. With businesses adding 230,000 jobs last month, February represents the 72nd consecutive month of private sector job growth.

“Today, we mark landmark milestones of economic progress and health security in America: an unprecedented six consecutive years of private sector job growth and a monumental 20 million previously uninsured Americans covered through the Affordable Care Act. We must build on this progress for more jobs and stronger wages.

“Yet after another month of time wasted on the floor, House Republicans clearly have no plans to help create good paying jobs or grow the paychecks of hard-working Americans. Instead, Republicans continue to bicker over whether their latest ‘Road to Ruin’ budget proposal is radical enough to win their own party’s support.

“Hard-working Americans need a better plan for jobs and opportunity than whatever is coming out of the radical Republican echo chamber. Republicans should come together with Democrats to build a budget that will invest in jobs, bigger paychecks, better infrastructure, and a brighter future for all Americans — while reducing the deficit in a balanced and responsible manner.”
