Pelosi Statement on Enrollment in ACA Marketplaces Reaching 4 Million Americans

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after the announcement today that 4 million Americans have successfully enrolled in private plans through the Affordable Care Act's health insurance marketplaces:

"Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, Americans across the country are enjoying new health security, and the personal and economic freedom that comes with it. Every day, more Americans discover for themselves the protections of the Affordable Care Act. The latest enrollment figures represent millions of Americans who are no longer forced to pay more just for being a woman, defer critical preventive care for their loved ones, or live in dread of an accident or an illness driving them to financial ruin.

"The Affordable Care Act is working. Four million Americans and counting have signed up on the marketplaces, 3.1 million young people are on their parents' plans thanks to the ACA and millions more have gained coverage through the expansion of Medicaid.

"Unfortunately, Republicans are continuing their obsession with undoing the Affordable Care Act, planning their 50th vote to repeal or undermine this landmark law. Republicans should end their fixation, and work with Democrats to strengthen the law and preserve health care as a right, not a privilege, for every American."
