Pelosi Statement on Ending Ban on Federal Gun Violence Research in Omnibus

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement calling on omnibus negotiators to end the 19-year-long ban on federal research on gun violence:

"This Monday, we mark three years since the searing attack at Sandy Hook Elementary School. In the more than 1,000 days since, there have been more than 1,000 mass shootings. Yet the Republican Congress refuses to address the crisis in our country.

"With 30,000 gun deaths every year, America is in the middle of a public health epidemic. Therefore, I call on the omnibus negotiators to remove the outrageous ban on federal research on gun violence.

"The American people deserve the facts. Members of Congress need the data. Republicans cannot use willful ignorance to justify their inaction on gun violence."
