San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released this statement after the Trump Administration posted on the Office of Management and Budget website that it is reviewing an interim final rule that would reverse the federal requirement that ensures that women employed by religiously affiliated nonprofits have access to birth control:

"President Trump's sickening plan to roll back women's access to contraception would deny millions of women access to basic, preventative health care. The draft rule announced today attempts to tear away women's control over their own private health decisions and put that control in the hands of employers and politicians.

"From the moment that President Trump entered the Oval Office, he has launched a campaign against women, cynically appointing an anti-birth control lobbyist to lead federal family planning efforts and reinstating an expanded global gag rule that denies millions of vulnerable women access to basic health care services worldwide. This dangerous decision is the latest – but certainly not the last – assault on women's rights from the White House.

"Unfortunately, instead of standing up to the President, House Republicans are waging their own war on women with their disastrous Trumpcare bill, numerous restrictions on how women can spend private dollars in purchasing health insurance and cuts to access to the Title X family planning program. Every woman has the right to make her own intimate health decisions – and Democrats will never stop fighting to defend that right."
