Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi today released the following statement after Presidio Trust Executive Director Craig Middleton announced his retirement from the Trust. Middleton served as an aide to Congresswoman Pelosi during the creation of the Presidio Trust, and left her office to become the first employee of the Trust in 1997. He has served as Executive Director of the Presidio Trust since 2001.

"Since 1776, the Presidio of San Francisco has stood as the ‘Guardian of the Golden Gate' and, since 1997, Craig Middleton has stood as a proud guardian of the Presidio. As he retires, we celebrate his vision, advocacy, and leadership in preserving this landmark and guiding its transition from Post to Park.

"Craig's roots at the Presidio run deep – from serving as one of my key Congressional aides when Congress passed the law creating the Presidio Trust and working as the Trust's first employee to leading this innovative public-private partnership in achieving financial self-sufficiency as executive director.

"Due in no small part to Craig's service, the Presidio stands as a magnificent public park, rich with history and full of possibilities. On behalf of all who enjoy this majestic landmark, I extend best wishes to Craig and his family on the occasion of his retirement."
