Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released this statement following news of a 7.3-magnitude earthquake that killed more than 400 people and injured nearly 6,000 more in Iraq and Iran:

"The thoughts of Americans are with the families and loved ones of those killed and those still missing in the devastating earthquake in Iraq and Iran. We are grateful to the first responders and the crowds of selfless men and women already lining up to deliver supplies, donate blood and provide hope.

"During this dark moment, America sends its prayers to the communities shattered by this tragedy. No family should have to face this heartbreak alone, and we call on the international community to provide immediate and robust support to search for survivors, deliver aid and help rebuild.

"The United States stands in solidarity with those affected by this horrific event. May it be a comfort to these communities that so many around the world are holding them in their hearts and hoping for their recovery."
