Washington, D.C. - Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today on the announcement by Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney of New York that she will remain in the House.

â€Å"I welcome the announcement of Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney to continue to serve in the House of Representatives, where she is a respected leader on issues that directly impact the lives of all Americans. As chair of the Joint Economic Committee, Congresswoman Maloney is working to grow our economy, fighting on behalf of America's working families, and seeking to lower health care costs and expand the number of those covered by health insurance.

â€Å"Due to her leadership, Congress has passed and President Obama has signed into law her credit card reform bill, which will provide significant consumer protections. The law bans unfair and deceptive practices by credit card companies, such as retroactive interest rate hikes and exorbitant fees and penalties.

â€Å"Congresswoman Maloney is a valued legislator and her contributions to her district and to our nation will continue as a Member of the House.”
