Pelosi Statement on Congressional Delegation Visit to U.S. Army Africa Headquarters

Vicenza, Italy – Speaker Pelosi and a high-level Congressional delegation, en route to observe the 400th Anniversary of the First Enslaved Africans Land in America, met today with U.S. Army Major General Roger Cloutier and top military commanders at U.S. Army Africa Command. Speaker Pelosi released the following statement:
“In preparation for our trip to Ghana, the delegation received an in-depth mission overview of U.S. Army operations in Africa led by Major General Roger Cloutier, Commanding General U.S. Army Africa. The briefing covered terrorist threats and other formidable challenges facing African nations that threaten not only Africa, but global security and stability. The delegation also received a detailed update on security cooperation initiatives, joint exercises and other efforts by U.S. Forces to build host nation capacity and improve security on the continent.
“Today’s briefing also underscored the critical role national guard partnerships with African nations play in crisis response and building core capacity across the continent. The delegation looks forward to exploring options for further expansion of these key partnerships.
“Our delegation was privileged to extend our thanks and pride to the men and women in uniform working to advance U.S. and regional security efforts on the continent of Africa.”
