Washington, D.C. - Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in celebration of Cinco de Mayo.

â€Å"Today, communities all over America celebrate Cinco de Mayo and honor the history, traditions, and culture that Americans of Mexican descent, and all Latinos, have made a part of the American fabric.

â€Å"The Cinco de Mayo holiday also reminds us of the longstanding friendship between the United States and Mexico and our joint commitment to mutual success. The friendship between our two countries is, and always has been, vital to people on both sides of the border. When our countries work together to address an urgent challenge such as the H1N1flu outbreak, our strong relationship makes success all the more possible.

â€Å"Mexico and the United States may be separated by a border, but we have much more in common: our values of faith, family, and love of our respective countries. We are two nations sharing a vibrant community, and a commitment to all of our citizens. This Cinco de Mayo, we honor these shared values and our essential partnership.”
