Pelosi Statement on CBO Annual Deficit Report

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after the CBO reported the federal deficit will increase to $693 billion this year:

"The news from CBO reiterates that America cannot afford Republicans' obsession with handing hundreds of billions of dollars in tax breaks to the richest at the expense of working Americans.

"Republicans have failed to pass a budget, failed to advance tax reform, and failed to introduce an infrastructure bill. Six months into this Congress, Republicans still have not put forward a single bill to create jobs, raise wages, and fuel the middle-class growth that is the only real path to long-term deficit reduction.

"Ransacking investments in good-paying jobs and the good health of America's families will weaken our economy and widen the deficit down the road. Democrats will continue to fight for real action to create jobs and growth for everyone, everywhere in America."
