Pelosi Statement on California Paid Sick Leave Law

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after Governor Jerry Brown signed paid sick leave legislation into law:

"Today's bill signing by Governor Brown marks a critical step forward for the women and working families of California.

"Paid sick leave is essential for the health of our families, the strength of our workers, and the success of the middle class. California's Healthy Families, Healthy Workplaces Act will help lower health care costs, reduce employee turnover, prevent the spread of illnesses, and support both women and men caring for their families.

"To jumpstart the middle class, we must unleash the full potential of America's working women. When women have fairness and balance between work and family, we know there are no limits to what they can achieve – and when women succeed, America succeeds. Now it is time for Congress to follow California's lead, and guarantee paid sick leave for workers across the entire country."
