Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the bipartisan legislation to renew emergency unemployment insurance introduced by Congressmen Dan Kildee and Steven Horsford:

"Today, more than 3.1 million Americans have been cut off from the emergency unemployment insurance they rely on to see their families through the crisis of long-term unemployment.

"It is unconscionable that Republicans have refused to renew this essential support for hard working Americans who lost their jobs through no fault of their own. Each week that House Republicans continue with their callous, shortsighted and immoral refusal to extend unemployment insurance, another 72,000 Americans lose the lifeline they rely on to care for their families as they look for a job.

"Congress should act immediately to take up the bipartisan legislation introduced by Congressmen Dan Kildee and Steven Horsford. Instead of punishing those Americans still searching for work, Republicans should come together with Democrats, pass this paid-for bill, and work to build an economy that works for everyone – not just the wealthy."
