London — Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement after the Congressional delegation held a bilateral meeting with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson: "Our Congressional delegation today held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The discussion focused on Russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine, which poses an urgent threat to the people of the Ukraine, to security and stability in Europe and to democratic values around the world. "Our delegation expressed gratitude for the United Kingdom's partnership with the Biden Administration on a strategy to deter an invasion, including the threat of preventing Russia companies from accessing U.S. dollars and U.K. pounds. Since that meeting, President Putin has decided to recognize Donetsk and Luhansk as ‘independent:' a thinly veiled attempt to mask what is a clear attack on Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. We commend President Biden for his strong leadership and Prime Minister Johnson for his partnership. "In this challenging moment, the special relationship between our nations will remain crucial. The United States and the United Kingdom must continue to work together to unify our NATO allies, ensure security and promote democracy." # # # |
