Pelosi Statement on BART Strike

San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement following the initiation of a strike by transit workers employed by the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system:

“Hundreds of thousands of Bay Area residents rely on BART each and every day – for work, school and personal transportation. An operating BART system is essential to our regional economy.

“I encourage both sides to come back to the table and continue talking so that they can work to an agreement that is fair for management and workers, protects BART employees' safety, and allows BART to invest in the future of the system.”
