Pelosi Statement on Awarding of Nobel Prize to Dr. Shinya Yamanaka

San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after Dr. Shinya Yamanaka was awarded the Nobel Prize this morning for his innovative work on cellular reprogramming at the Gladstone Institute and University of California San Francisco:

"It's a source of enormous pride to the San Francisco community that one of our own, Dr. Shinya Yamanaka, was awarded the Nobel Prize this morning. Dr. Yamanaka's innovative, creative, and potentially life-saving work on cellular reprogramming builds upon a career of scientific excellence.

"This Nobel Prize also rightly honors the groundbreaking work done at the Gladstone Institute and UCSF. The Bay Area is a cradle of dynamic thinking and a relentless generator of innovation.

"Many congratulations to Dr. Yamanaka and UCSF; he has brought luster to this remarkable award."
