San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on recent reports of declining American auto sales and rising U.S. auto job losses under the Trump Administration:
"For all President Trump's promises, American auto workers are watching thousands of good-paying jobs eliminated or shipped overseas. Hard-working Americans are facing an unsettling and uncertain future, and President Trump is too busy tweeting to pay attention.
"In 2009, while Republicans insisted the American auto industry be left to die, President Obama and the Democratic Congress took bold action to protect hard-working autoworkers' jobs and revitalize America's automakers. The lifeline Democrats provided saved the American auto industry and 1.5 million jobs.
"Now, years of record-breaking auto sales and job creation are being squandered by President Trump. So far, 2017 is on track to produce the fewest net new jobs in seven years. Hard-working men and women across America are being left behind by a President with no jobs plan and no real commitment to working families. Democrats will continue to demand real action to create more good-paying jobs for hard-working Americans everywhere."
