Pelosi Statement on April Jobs Report

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after the Department of Labor announced that the economy added 160,000 jobs in April. With businesses adding 171,000 jobs last month, April represents the 74th consecutive month of private sector job growth.

"April's jobs report shows our economy continues to move forward. Yet the obstructionist Republican Congress continues to stand in the way of creating more good-paying jobs and growing the paychecks of working Americans.

"Four months into the year, Republicans have no real plan to raise wages and create good-paying jobs in our country. House Republicans still have not brought their latest job-killing 'Road to Ruin' Ryan budget proposal to an up or down vote. Americans with critical public health emergencies threatening their families still see no action or urgency from the Republican Congress.

"The message to House Republicans is clear: do your job! The American people are fed up with a Republican Congress that spends week after week stacking the deck for the special interests, and does nothing to create good-paying jobs or grow the wages of hard-working families. Democrats will continue to fight for strong action to create jobs and increase the paychecks of all Americans."
