Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the announcement by the Department of Transportation of $171 million in new federal loans for the Transbay Transit Center in San Francisco:

"Today, in a huge step forward for our city, the Department of Transportation announced that the Transbay Transit Center will receive a Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act loan. This significant federal investment will help complete the innovative project, ultimately resulting in more public transport options, reduced congestion, lower carbon emissions, and new jobs. The new, modern, green, multi-modal, regional facility will connect eight counties, nine transit systems, and communities throughout the state with long-distance bus and rail service, including high-speed rail. In addition, with the associated development of housing and businesses, Transbay is on its way to becoming the heart of a revitalized neighborhood and a national model of transit-oriented development.

"The Bay Area has provided significant investment toward this effort and I hope that the Department of Transportation continues to recognize the need and capacity for such innovative transportation in California. San Francisco is ready to be a national leader in transit-oriented development and today the Transbay Transit Center is one step closer to becoming the ‘Grand Central of the West.’"
