Pelosi Statement on Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released this statement today marking the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade:

"In Roe v. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed that a woman's right to make reproductive health decisions must be her own, in consultation with her family, her physician, and her faith.

"Yet, this incoming Republican Administration and the Republican Congress are embarking on a dangerous crusade to reverse American women's fundamental constitutional right to make the most intimate health decisions. As Republican politicians clamor to put the government back in charge of women's bodies and put bureaucrats in charge of families' private health decisions; House Democrats continue to stand our ground to defend women's hard-won reproductive freedoms.

"Now more than ever, all Americans who value freedom must stand together and reject schemes to return our country to the days when women's rights were not recognized and honored under the law. Democrats will continue to lead the effort to defend reproductive choice and work toward a comprehensive approach to reproductive health care, so we can reduce the number of unintended pregnancies at home and around the world. I hope to work with my colleagues to build on the legacy of Roe v. Wade and protect the rights of women across the country."
