Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today on the bicameral amicus brief filed by House and Senate Democratic leaders; leaders of the relevant committees and subcommittees of jurisdiction, and Congressman John Dingell with the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. This brief was filed this afternoon in support of affirming the U.S. district court’s decision in Thomas More Law Center v. Obama that the Affordable Care Act is constitutional:
“The amicus brief makes our position clear: the health reform law is constitutional, falls within the bounds of congressional power, and is consistent with longstanding precedents of the Supreme Court.
“By filing this brief, Democratic leaders are taking a strong stand against any and all efforts to repeal patients’ rights and put insurance companies back in charge of Americans’ health choices.
“Democrats will continue to protect the rights and freedoms of the parents, children, students, seniors and small businesses already benefiting from health reform – or set to benefit soon.”
