San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today, marking the sixth anniversary of the landmark Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act:

“Six years ago, the enactment of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act ushered in a new era of financial security and consumer protection for hard-working Americans. Championed by House Democrats, Dodd-Frank strengthens our financial system, protects taxpayers from bailouts and consumers from marketplace abuses, and ensures that our financial system no longer rewards bad actors on Wall Street for their reckless behavior.

“Despite the success of Dodd-Frank in protecting America’s working families and preventing another financial collapse, House Republicans want to turn back the clock on this vital law. Time and time again, Republicans have tried to weaken key reforms for working Americans and undermine our watchdogs’ ability to effectively police Wall Street.

“House Democrats are fighting to build a Stronger America by securing the financial future of hard-working families and building an economy that works for everyone. House Republicans should stop trying to undermine this historic law that protects our seniors, our servicemembers, and our most vulnerable consumers from the very same financial marketplace abuses that resulted in the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.”
