Pelosi Statement on 39th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement to mark the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, which falls on Sunday, January 22nd:

“As we approach the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we recommit to protecting reproductive choice and to fighting back any attempts to chip away at the freedoms that were so hard-won for American women.

“This Congress has been marked by the relentless efforts of Republicans to undermine the right to choose. The most important, and private, decision for a woman to have a child should not rest with the Congress. This decision should be made by a woman, in consultation with her family, her physician, and her faith.

“As I have for nearly 25 years in Congress, I will continue to work on behalf of reproductive freedoms and a comprehensive approach to reproductive health care, which will reduce the number of unintended pregnancies, at home and around the world.“
