Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement marking the second anniversary of Hurricane Sandy:
“Two years ago, the winds and waves of Hurricane Sandy brought devastation to communities across the East Coast, claiming homes, businesses and 117 lives. In the destruction and the suffering, we knew we had a duty to act – to support our fellow Americans in their time of need, and give them the support to recover and rebuild.
“In the face of this disaster, the American people acted with compassion, coming together to assist the victims of Sandy in whatever way they could. Once again, the courage of our first-responders and the decency of ordinary citizens inspired the nation.
“When disaster strikes, Congress has a responsibility to stand behind the victims and to help our communities bounce back stronger than ever. American families deserve to know that their government will be there for them, without question and without hesitation. As we mark this solemn anniversary, let us remember the victims and their families, and let us honor our responsibility never to keep Americans in need waiting.”
