San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released this statement marking the 11th anniversary of President Obama signing the Affordable Care Act into law on March 23, 2010:
“For eleven years, the landmark Affordable Care Act has expanded coverage, lowered costs and secured lifesaving protections for hard-working families. Today, the ACA stands as a great pillar of economic and health security for the American people, alongside Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
“In the middle of a deadly pandemic, access to quality, affordable health coverage is more important than ever. Thanks to the enhancements to the ACA in the Biden American Rescue Plan, Democrats are dramatically lowering families’ health costs and expanding access to affordable coverage to millions more Americans. Hold-out states will have access to increased federal funds if they finally agree to adopt the ACA’s Medicaid expansion. And with President Biden’s action to open a Special Enrollment Period, millions of uninsured Americans can now take advantage of the ACA’s vital, affordable benefits for themselves and their families.
“Democrats will continue to work For The People to build on the Affordable Care Act to lower health costs and prescription drug prices for all Americans. On this anniversary, Democrats renew our commitment to strengthen and expand the ACA’s lifesaving protections – because quality, affordable health care must be a right, not a privilege, for all.”
