Pelosi Statement Marking Two Years Since Russian Invasion of Ukraine

San Francisco – Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi issued this statement marking two years since Russia launched its unlawful, unjustified invasion of Ukraine:

“Today marks two years since Russia’s brutal, illegal new phase of aggression against Ukraine.  That means two years of blood spilled, of communities decimated, of children kidnapped, of women raped, all at the hands of Vladimir Putin.  Yet the world has watched in awe as President Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people have fought back for the sake of their democracy – and for democracy in the world – against Putin’s diabolical assault.

“As we mark this anniversary, Ukraine is running out of bullets, supplies and time.  There is a strong, bipartisan majority in the House to pass President Biden’s request for more aid to Ukraine, and Speaker Johnson must give us a vote.  For the people of Ukraine, and for freedom in the world, Putin must be defeated.”
