Pelosi Statement Marking Two Years Since Overturning of Roe v. Wade

San Francisco – Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi released this statement marking two years since the Republican-appointed Supreme Court majority overturned Roe v. Wade with its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization:

“Two years ago, the Trump-appointed supermajority on the Supreme Court tore down Roe v. Wade.  With its outrageous Dobbs decision, the Court opened the floodgates of chaos and cruelty on women and their families.

“Women experiencing miscarriages have been turned away from hospitals.  Rape survivors have been forced to drive hundreds of miles across state lines to get care.  Doctors have been threatened with criminal prosecution just for providing the care their patients need.

“Shamefully, Republican extremists now want to go even further by putting emergency medical care, IVF and even contraception on the chopping block.  And make no mistake: Republicans will not rest until they enact a nationwide abortion ban.

“These are not only attacks on women – they are attacks on our privacy and our freedom.  But led by President Biden and Vice President Harris, Democrats are proudly fighting back to restore the rights of Roe so that reproductive care is the right of every woman, everywhere in America.”
